1988 Olympic Torch Pawn Stars

Authentic 1988 Olympic Torch Featured on Popular Television show, Pawn Stars

Richard Korbyl, Manager of Columbia Awards and The Trophy King, showcased his genuine 1988 Winter Olympic Torch on the TV show, PAWN STARS. During filming in Las Vegas at the Gold and Silver Pawn Shop, Korbyl shared intriguing facts with Rick Harrison (owner) and his son, Corey Harrison.

Korbyl's, Parent company, Columbia Awards, was chosen by the 1988 Winter Olympic Committee to laser engrave the iconic graphic on the maple torch handle. Columbia Awards was among the early adopters of laser engraving technology in North America.

The laser engraver bore the serial number 0012, highlighting the rarity of the cutting-edge technology, as stated by Korbyl. The significance of this innovative technology was clear to my father, Korbyl added.

The 1988 Winter Olympic Torch is considered the second most rare torch in Olympic history.  There were only 146 torches made and only 2 or three which have never been lit or used.  "While we are extremely happy that we have one of these super rare '88 torches, but we are most proud of is our connection to the 1988 Winter Olympics" says Korbyl.

"The Olympics honor excellence, but the '88 Calgary Winter Olympics truly highlighted the underdog" according to Korbyl. The 1988 Winter Olympics showcased the Jamaican bobsled team and Eddie 'The Eagle' ski jumper, both well-known competitors who were portrayed in mainstream films.

The Pawn Stars TV show did not display the actual laser engraving fixture used for the handles. Moreover, the extra three laser-engraved handles were omitted in the episode.
